Recently EA announced that they are no longer supporting The Sims 2, having moved on to The Sims 3 (all expansions and add-ons of which are available digitally for purchase on Origin) and the upcoming Sims 4.
There is no way to purchase The Sims 2 or any of its expansions via Origin, so this is the only way you will ever be able to get yourself a legal digital copy of the game.
Keep in mind that The Sims 2: Ultimate collection is a 12GB file.
